1. What is the Chunati Siddiqui Roots (CSR) App?

The CSR App is the digital evolution of the authoritative genealogical book, ‘ছিদ্দিকী বংশের একটি পারিবারিক ইতিহাস, ১৯৯৮’ by Professor Muin-ud-din Ahmad Khan. It is a collaborative initiative designed to preserve and expand upon that original research for future generations.

2. Why is the app named "Chunati Siddiqui Roots"?

The name aligns with the title of the original reference book. Because our family members use a wide variety of titles, we use "Chunati" to specifically distinguish our lineage from other Siddiqui lines.

3. Is membership free?

Yes, membership is currently free. We aim to keep it free for as long as possible to ensure all family members can access our shared history.

2Contributions & Accuracy

4. How is the data collected?

Building the tree is a collective effort. While the app provides the platform, data collection is a shared responsibility. Every member contributes their own knowledge to help build the tree and keep it accurate.

5. How should I spell names and titles?

Primary Spelling: Use the spelling found on your official documents, such as your National ID, Passport, or Academic Certificates (SSC).

Language Requirements: Providing your name in Bangla is compulsory. While the CSR App attempts to convert names to English automatically, these algorithms can make mistakes. We strongly encourage you to manually provide both the correct Bangla and English spellings via the profile modification form to ensure your record is 100% accurate.

Prefixes: You may include titles like Dr., Engineer, Professor, Haji, or Advocate if they are a common part of the person’s name.

Postfixes: Academic degrees (e.g., B.A., Ph.D.) are not accepted as part of the name field.

6. How do I correct an error?

If you spot a typo or incorrect information, you can suggest an edit directly through the app. When correcting others’ contributions, please reach out kindly and provide a source or reason for the change.

3Privacy & Data Security

7. What personal data is visible to others?

To protect your privacy, only names are displayed to all verified family members. Sensitive information—such as mobile numbers, email addresses, and residential addresses—is only visible to approved verifiers, approvers and the individual member.

8. How is my data protected?

We use industry-standard encryption and trusted technology partners (Supabase and Vercel) to host the app. While no digital system is 100% secure, we take every reasonable precaution to keep our family data safe. We will never sell your information to third parties.

9. What happens if I close my account?

If you choose to close your account, your sensitive data (email, phone number, photos) will be removed. However, your name and family links will be retained to preserve the integrity of the family lineage for future generations.

4Using the App

10. Who are the different types of users?

Subscriber or User: A registered member whose application has been approved.

Verifier: A member assigned to review registration applications for accuracy.

Approver: A member who provides final approval for verified registrations.

11. Can I edit my own or others’ profiles?

You can update your own profile at any time. For other family members, you can suggest edits or add new members via the "Right Click" menu (on desktop) or the edit options in the person’s details view. All changes are reviewed by verifiers before becoming public.

12. Will there be photos in the family tree?

We may collect photos for administrative use or profile details, but a community discussion will be held before they are widely implemented. To maintain a respectful appearance, photos may be excluded from the main tree chart, especially as we lack photos of our early forefathers.

13. Can I use the app on my mobile phone?

Yes, you can access the app through your mobile browser by entering the URL https://www.csroots.org/. Please note that while functional, the interface is currently optimised for desktop use, so the layout may appear small or require horizontal scrolling on mobile devices.

5Support & Technical Help

14. How do I find myself or others in the tree?

Use the "Find Me" button to jump directly to your position. You can also use the Search Box at the top to find any relative by name.

15. What does the book icon mean?

A book icon next to a name indicates that the individual was documented in the original 1998 family history book.

16. How do I get technical support?

If you encounter technical issues or need help with bulk name uploads, please contact the app administrators via the contact details provided in your welcome email.
